Aditya Birla Sun Life AMC Limited, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. A Balasubramanian, has been an integral part of the organization since 1994. As a Fixed Income and Equity Portfolio Manager in the Mutual Fund sector, he has over 26 years of expertise. Before taking on the CEO position in 2009, he held the position of Chief Investment Officer from 2006 to 2009.
He has done his BSc in Mathematics and MBA, apart from being the Alumnus of the finest and most prestigious educational institutions nationally and Globally. He has been a part of IIM Bangalore and Harvard through Advanced Management Programme, constantly contributing.
He finds his roots in Thanjavur in Tamil Nadu, India. As a child full of inexplicable hunger in search of answers to the questions presented by the everyday functioning of things around him and things out of his reach. Thus he wished to be an engineer and swore to find those solutions to his mystifying sets of questions from the dept of Earth. He had been a computer engineer for a brief time in his career, but the Almighty Lord had different sets of plans laid out for him.
He relocated to Mumbai with the intent to find regime deployment financial management. He got into the business with lawmakers and the leading financial services employees who persisted those days. His cousin brother was working in a prominent position with a bank, and he extended this opportunity with young Bala.
Through this job, he developed a knack for Market functioning since his place of employment was close to the Bombay Stock Exchange. In addition, during these days, his father entrusted him with Managing their Mutual Funds. So this was the reason that he was consumed by Mutual Funds and ended up being a Mutual Fund Trader.
As the MD & CEO of Aditya Birla Sun Life AMC Limited, he has essentially fostered global mandates. Through its subsidiary company in Singapore and Dubai, having assets of close to USD 1.8 billion (as of December 31, 2019), apart from Alternate Investment Funds, Real Estate and PMS are directly overseen by him.
Moreover, Balasubramanian is closely associated with major pivotal industrial bodies. Currently, he is among a few crowned jewels on the Board of Governors of the National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM), a SEBI-established entity. He also presides on nearly US$ 36 billion (as of December 31, 2019) of Assets Under Management at Aditya Birla Sun Life AMC, one of India's leading Asset Managers.
He also presides over the Committee of Corporate Bond Market Development (CCBMD) of SEBI. Apart from these prestigious roles, he plays an active role in AMFI on a Board of Directors. He has also held the prominent position of Chairman of AMFI for two years, from 2016-2018.
