Episode Description

Be Money Smart. Be FINtastic.

As rightly suggested by Mr. Sanjiv Bajaj, Wealth Creation starts with Wealth Protection. FINtastic Talks Season 2 is back with its 8th episode featuring Mr. Aashish P. Somaiyaa, Executive Director & CEO of WhiteOak Capital Mutual Fund.

Episode Key Takeaways ( in English )
  • Investment always chases growth, when there is no growth, there is no investment.
“If Indians are contributing 20% to the world’s growth, it is going to be the biggest labour market, biggest consumer market. Hence, the biggest destination for Investment in the world. This should excite any investor in India knowing things have changed for the better”. Aashish P. Somaiyaa
  • Don't Invest in a Fund by its Past Rating.
    “Don’t Invest in the past!
The market proves that whoever has done good in the last 1/2/3 years is because the strategies at that time have worked for them. The strategies keep changing. A fund doing great at the moment can be the worst performer in the next 1 to 3 years”. Sanjiv Bajaj
  • Buy right, Sit tight strategy.
When you are buying and selling mutual funds, ultimately, it has uncertain outcome. So anything with uncertain outcome means that if you take 10 decisions, 5 times you will be right & 5 times you will be wrong. So take fewer decisions but more concrete high-conviction decisions.
  • Make savings a Daily Habit.
If you make a budget then you can make a habit of saving & SIP is the best way to do that. SIP is one of the most flexible investment options and you don't have to worry about paying the installments because minimum ticket size of starting a SIP is Rs. 500.
  • What to choose? Open-ended or Close-ended Mutual Funds.
As an Investor, you should go for open-ended funds. If you want to save taxes, you should invest in ELSS, which is close-ended. It is better to have the flexibility of open-ended funds.
  • The broader your portfolio the more consistent performance you will have.
So if you want a consistent performance go for broad-ended mutual funds for more consistent performance. As you reach a balance of all factors then you will be able to overcome all kinds of macro conditions and your performance will not swing from wild outperformer to wild underperformer and back and forth.
